Uncommon Commonalities was co-curated by gallery associate Sandy Guttman and Jeroen Nelemans at Aspect/Ratio Gallery. Culling from a selection of artists represented by Aspect/Ratio, the exhibition explored various approaches to definitions of identity across media. With Guy Ben-Ner’s video and performance Moby Dick as a launching point, Uncommon commonalities deals with the performance of identity. Masks and costuming in the artworks act as a form of layering that are in conversation with the complex nature of today’s society, highlighting a shift toward ambiguity within identity.
Artists included in the exhibition: Einat Amir, Guy Ben-Ner, Rashayla Marie Brown, Glen Fogel, and Desirée Holman.
